We just moved to NYC. We arrived during a Nor'easter (a hurricane's moodier East Coast cousin). Our umbrella blew inside out on the walk to a pub our first night, where we paid $27 for a burger. The weather has gotten better, but the uneasy feeling has stuck around: unsettled, windswept, subject to dynamic atmospheric pressure.
Two of our best friends from SF suggested we stay grounded and connected with remote movie parties. To start, we'll rewatch some of our favorites together. The exercise forced me to think hard about my comfort films (or just ones I'd watch again and again and again). Here's my list:
- Aftersun
- Anatomy of a Fall
- Arrival
- The Big Short
- Blade Runner
- Call Me by Your Name
- Everything Everywhere All at Once
- Ex Machina
- Forgetting Sarah Marshall
- Get Out
- The Godfather (I & II)
- Good Will Hunting
- Gravity
- Hamnet
- Hereditary
- Inception
- Interstellar
- The Lord of the Rings
- The Matrix
- Memento
- Moneyball
- No Country for Old Men
- The Power of the Dog
- The Prestige
- The Princess Bride
- Ratatouille
- The Shawshank Redemption
- Shrek
- Shutter Island
- The Silence of the Lambs
- The Skeleton Key
- Up in the Air
- The Usual Suspects
- V for Vendetta
- White Chicks
Send me your favorites for weathering a storm. Snail mail only, though. I'm trying to stay off screens.
